Heester: “Focal point of my works lies in the relation between the creation itself and its origin. To simplify: why make art?”

Heester graduated in the field of landscape architecture, followed by his master degree at the Academy of Architecture at the Amsterdam University of the Arts.

Artworks by Heester have been exhibited in musea, art platforms and in city squares in the Netherlands. Heester has been commissioned an artwork in the public space in Amsterdam and has won a prize in an international architecture competition. His visions have been published in national and international architectural- and design magazines.

Heester his works can be categorized:
-City visions.
These works are closely related to his Academy of Architecture studies. Works are materialised in competitions, models, concepts and publications. During this period, Heester studied and realized arch./urban plans and art sculptures of other artists while working for the central planning department of the municipality of Amsterdam. By experience and 1-1 interviews Heester learned the A-Z of politics, real estate and planning.
During 2019 Jeroen Heester works in the position of visiting professor for the University of Iceland, while focussing on teaching and on processes of landscapes and architecture.
This categories consists of mostly conceptual works in a figurative and expressionists style. The works reflect on the reality of ‘the system we live in.’ The sculptures focus on moral relativism and the duality mindset based upon lies, fear, greed, guilt and theft in classic-modern fairy tale style, while looking into the abyss.
-Land art.
Spatially constructed, mostly in an abstract and minimalist style, these works express the above works in a less personalized manner. Photographically documented.
To gain understanding of the concepts above and to focus on land art, Heester moved to Iceland for 2019 assuming to learn from processes in the landscape. He shares his findings with other artists and more, on Facebook/Instagram: Jeroen Heester
