moral relativism.

The project manifests the duality mindset of todays Zeitgeist. It consitst of a combination of two opposites that are not related by the same subject.
1: Pfizer – Medical experimentation by pharmaceutical companies, such as Pfizer, in African countries have lead to -relatively many- death and disabled test subjects. Also, Pfizer settled for the largest criminal fine of any kind ever (2009) for fraudulent marketing. In itself, a company that claims to manufacture medicines in order to heal people and turnes out to kill, disable and lie to people can be interpreted as one of the most socially unwishfull parts of human society. At the same time, it represents the acceptance of profit as a focal point, no matter the consequences. This way, Pfizer represents a part of the human culture today.

2: The NDSM loods with the steel blue doors, is an old industrial complex that houses many artists. Who doesn’t love that? Who can be against such a place? Can this be one of those places that symbolises wishfullness of the human society? This way, art breeding-platforms such as the NDSM loods represents a part of the human culture today, also.

1+2: This project combines both representations of human culture into one single, holistic representation. It implies an existential relationship by accepting illegal activities of one company for an increase in profit, that indirectly enables the funding of the arts of that same culture.

By doing this, the Pfizer-work critisizes the socially and neoliberal acceptance of art being devaluated into strategically positioned investments of a gentrification proces that ‘will benefit society.’

Three months after realisation the project was vandalised by one of the artists of the art breeding place. According to him the Pfizer-work was ugly.
So far, this work has been the only work at the NDSM Warf that has been vandalised. In this case, out of aesthetic reasons.

June 2018: Due to bad publicity Monsanto adopted the name of its over-all company Bayer. Bayer is related to asperin, a good thing for mankind. Monsanto rcan be seen as a representation of fraud, poison and DNA-polition. For this reason, since june 2018 the name Monsanto no longer exists. Its activities do, under the name Bayer.
This project depicts Heester his view on the existential relationship of governmental tasks (war) and commercial gain on one hand and the acceptance of poison and polition for profit, on the other. By combining both, Heester depicts an holistic view on human culture today.
